Add a bit of whimsy to your morning wake-up with this adorable mug rug! It’s fun to say and super cute to see. Placed under your morning cuppa, your afternoon iced coffee or even under your evening adult beverage, this sweet little coaster can catch all of your drips and prevent those ugly rings that we’ve all accidentally left behind. This is a great beginner project, using a combination of several basic stitches to create a beautiful fabric. These work up so quick and take just a bit of worsted cotton yarn- you’ll have a whole pile of them in an afternoon!

Supplies you need:
•A small amount of worsted weight cotton- I love this cotton, peaches in cream, sugar n cream, crafters secret- I’ve tried and they all work great!
(I‘ve written the pattern using Crafters Secret cotton from hobby lobby. I was able to make a set of 4 from one ball)
•Size I crochet hook (I’m using my fav clover armour hook)
•scissors
•yarn needle for weaving ends
Making The Mug Rug
Using your size I crochet hook, start with a chain of 15
Row 1) skip the ch closest to your hook, working in the back bump, Hdc in each ch across. Ch 1. Turn.
Row 2-4) Sc in first st, dc in next st. *sc in next st, dc in next st* to the end. Ch 1 turn.
Row 5-7) sc in each st across. Ch 1. Turn.
Row 8-10) repeat rows 2-4
Row 11-13) repeat row 5-7
Row 14-16) repeat rows 2-4
Row 17) hdc in first st and each across.
Cut yarn and tie off.
Attaching the fringe
Cut 28 pieces of yarn, each approximately 3 inches long.
If you have never attached fringe before, see the photos below. It’s quite simple to do, not so easy to put into words.
We will be working along each of the short ends of the rug. Insert your hook into the first st on either end from the bottom. Fold one piece of fringe in half and pull the loop through the rug to the under side. Pull the two loose ends through the loop and tighten. (Check out those photos for clarification)
Repeat this method 27 more times (each st along both short ends). Sew in loose ends and enjoy yourself a drink cuz you’re done, sis!!
Now whip up a bunch more for everyone you know or stock up that booth for market season!!

Oh this looks what I call a EE pattern... easy and elegant!!! Thank you for sharing
Thank you Judy!!! ❤️ It IS so easy and really quick too!
I stumbled across this tonight. I’ve been thinking about learning to crochet and these would be great to learn on. Plus, these would make a neat little Christmas gift, tied up in a bundle! Thanks!
I’m so glad you found my site!! 😊 These are perfect for testing out all of the basic stitches you first learn and they would absolutely make adorable Christmas gifts!! And handmade gifts are always that much better 😁 I hope you do give crocheting a go! It’s a wonderful craft to learn ❤️
Shouldn’t the fringe at the end be cut 6” and folded in half to attach? 3” is pretty short. Maybe I am reading it wrong.
Hi Theresa!! If you would prefer a longer fringe you can absolutely cut it to any length that suits your taste. With the single strands I liked the look of the shorter fringe- but feel free to adjust it 😊
Thanks! I really love this pattern and it worked up fast. I made a set for a birthday present. Can’t wait to give them to my friend. ❤️
Yay!! They are a perfect gift!!
