• Yarn:  medium/4/worsted weight yarn
  • Approximate amounts needed:

Toddler:70g/125yds

Big Kid: 85g/155yds

Adult Small:100g/180yds

Adult Med: 110g/200yds

Adult Large: 125g/225yds

• “I Love This Yarn” by Hobby Lobby used in the pattern

• 6 mm (J) crochet hook
• Yarn needle
• Scissors
• (Optional) Pom

Gauge

14 DC x 7 rows = 4” x 4”

Notes

• This hat pattern is worked from the bottom up.
• The brim is worked in rows back and forth.

• This pattern is designed to fit snug upon completion to accommodate the stretch that will occur after the first wear.
• CH 1 at the beginning of rows does NOT count as a stitch.
• 3rd loop is NOT the same as the back loop.  3rd loop is the horizontal bar located behind the “V’s”

Brim

Row 1

• CH 8(9 10 11 12)
• SC in 2nd CH from hook and each across

Row 2 – 56 (60 64 68 72)

• CH 1, turn
• SC in first st
• SC BLO in next 5(6 7 8 9)
• SC in last st

Bring the short ends together.  CH 1 and SL ST along the edge, working through both layers to join. 

Turn the brim right side out so that the seam is on the inside. 

Body

Round 1

• CH 1
• HDC into the edge of each row of the brim.
• Join to the first HDC with a SL ST.

• CH 1 (does not count as a ST)
• HDC in 3rd loop of next ST and each ST around
• Join to first HDC with a SL ST.

Round 3 – 12: repeat round 2 (Toddler)

Round 3 – 14: repeat round 2 (Big Kid)

Round 3 – 16: repeat round 2  (Adult Small)

Round 3  – 17: repeat round 2 (Adult Medium)

Round 3 – 18: repeat round 2  (Adult Large)

Round 13(15 17 18 19): CH 1, do not turn

• *Working in the 3rd loop all around, HDC2TOG across 2 ST
• Repeat from * around.
• Join to first ST with a SL ST

Round 14(16 18 19 20): Repeat previous round.  

[14(15 16 17 18)]

Fasten off leaving a long tail. 

Weave the tail along the opening and cinch closed.  Tie off tightly.  

Weave in ends.
