Joining a new skein of yarn into your crochet project can seriously be a nerve wracking experience for some. Is the yarn going to hold? What if the whole thing unravels after you’ve put all of this time into creating it?! More ends to weave in? Ugh! I’ll pass…
The Magic Knot is a technique that I use to join my yarn when I’m adding a new skein of the same color into my project. It blends right into your work and makes for a very seamless addition. I can tug and tug and it does not come undone. This knot STAYS!! And the best part- I don’t need to weave in any ends! Thank you, Lord! With a bit of practice, you can master using the magic knot when switch colors as well!
The Magic Knot Tutorial
For this tutorial I’m using two different colors so you can easily see what is taking place. The cream colored yarn will be YarnA and the burgundy yarn will be Yarn B. This is I Love This Cotton from Hobby Lobby.
Start by tying the loose end of Yarn B around Yarn A with a simple knot.
Pull the knot tight.
Then tie the loose end of Yarn A around Yarn B.
Again, pull the knot tight and you’ll have something that looks like this.
Now, tug on Yarn B and Yarn A in opposite directions at the same time, sliding the two knots together. (You will be pulling the ends that are attached to the new skein and attached to your work- not the tails) Pull tight.
Snip your tails, very close to the knot but making sure not to accidentally clip the knot, too. And that’s it! Keep on crocheting and your knot should blend right into your work or can easily be worked into a stitch.
Master this and save your self so much time and anxiety while your working on that next project!!
