The Sweet Beginning Infinity Scarf is a lightweight piece that flows perfectly from fall into winter and through to the beginning of spring.  The unique stitch used creates a beautiful texture while staying airy and light.  

This pattern is an advanced beginner- intermediate level.

Supplies

• Yarn: 1 cake (389 yards/356 meters/150 grams) Roll With It Melange by Red Heart or another category 4/worsted weight yarn
• 5.5 mm (I) crochet hook
• Scissors
• Yarn needle
• Other yarn options: Mandala Tweed, Caron Cakes, Caron Simply Soft, Yarn Bee Soft Secret etc

Gauge

Following the pattern, the first 18 rows = 6” x 6”  (15cm x 15cm)

Gauge does not need to be exact as this is not a fitted garment.  Be sure your stitches are loose enough that the fabric is not too stiff.   

Finished size before seaming: approximately 50” x 6” (127cm x 15cm)

Notes

• This pattern is written using standard US terms.
• To adjust the length of the scarf add/subtract rows by 2. You should have an even number of rows before seaming.

• To adjust the width of the scarf add/subtract starting chains in multiples of 3.
• The first row is worked into the back bump of the starting chain.  This is not the same as the back loop.  Find a tutorial for the back bump here: https://carlieflo.com/the-back-bump-2/

• The crossed ripple stitch uses a ch3 turning ch.  This pattern uses a ch2 instead to keep the edges straighter.  The ch2 at the beginning of the row counts as a DC.
• To show the stitches clearly, I have used Bernat Maker Home Dec for the demonstration photos.  It is NOT a recommended yarn for this pattern.

ch- chain

st- stitch

sk- skip

sl st- slip stitch

sc- single crochet

DC- double crochet

FPDC- front post double crochet (insert hook from front to back, behind the post of the stitch)

Pattern

Ch 30. 

1. Working in the back bump, sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across. (29)

2. Ch 2, turn.  sk 1st st. *sk next 2 st, DC in next st, ch 1, DC in 1st of the 2 sk sts.  Repeat from * until one st remains.  DC in last st. (9 groups of crossed sts + 2 DC)

3. (Wrong side) Ch 1, turn. Sc in same st and each st and ch sp across. (29) Note: final sc is worked into ch sp from previous row.

4. (Right side) Ch 2, turn.  Sk 1st st. *sk next 2 sts, DC in next st. Ch 1, FPDC around 1st DC in the group below the sk sts. Repeat from * until one st remains.  DC in last st. (9 groups of crossed ripple sts+2 DC)

5-150  Repeat rows 3  & 4 (73 x)

Assembly

Fold the scarf in half with the wrong side facing you.  

Join the two short ends using a sl st across. Fasten off and weave in loose  ends.
