Free Crochet Market Bag Pattern – Mimosa Market Bag

If you’re anything like me- you LOVE bags! Purses! Totes! Of course market bags!! The Mimosa Market Bag Pattern is one of my favorite so far! This free crochet market bag pattern features a unique stitch pattern using double crochets together with chains in between. With this unique stitch pattern you still have the stretch and open mesh that you would expect of a beach bag or market bag, but it’s not SO open that you’re afraid of losing your contents.

The Mimosa Market Bag is a must-have to obviously hit the next farmers market- but use it all over! To the beach? Yep! Park? Absolutely! Library? Why not?! Grocery store? Uh huh! You’ll be carrying this bag every where you go! Styled with two bold contrasting colors keeps this bag modern and sleek!

Supplies

• Yarn:  medium/4/worsted weight  cotton:  (I Love This Cotton, Peaches ‘n Cream, Sugar ‘n Cream etc)

Color A- approximately 360 yards (200g)

Color B- approximately 110 yards (60g)

• 6 mm (J) crochet hook
• Yarn needle
• Scissors

Gauge

After completing Round 3- approximately  4” 

**Exact gauge is not necessary for this pattern.** 

Finished size while lying flat,  approximately:

 15” across the body

17” from bottom to top of the body 

11” from top of the body to top of the handle

Notes

• This pattern is written using standard US terms. 
• This pattern is worked in rounds from the bottom up
• dc2tog is NOT used as a decrease for this pattern.  This stitch will be worked within the same chain space. 
• ch2 + dc at the beginning of the round counts as a dc2tog.
• ch1 at the beginning of the sc rounds does not count as a stitch.
• Stitch counts are noted  at the bottom right of each row.
• Instructional photos are added after the pattern.
• To adjust the height, add/subtract repeat rows from the body in multiples of two. 
• To adjust the length of the handles, add/subtract chains in row 37

dc– double crochet

dc2tog– double crochet two together:  for this pattern this stitch is NOT used as a decrease.  dc2tog  within one ch sp. 

YO insert hook, YO, pull up a loop, YO, pull through first two loops on hook.  YO, insert hook in the same ch sp, YO, pull up a loop, YO pull through first two loops on hook, YO pull through 3 remaining loops on hook.

Pattern 

Working with color A:

ch 4, join to the 1st ch with a sl st to form a ring // or start with a magic circle

Round 1 working into the center of the ring

• ch 2, dc   **counts as dc2tog here and throughout
• ch 1
• [dc2tog, ch 1] 7 times
• Join with a sl st to  first dc **join to the dc, not the starting chain here and throughout

**Pull starting tail to cinch the center tight.

(8 dc2tog, 8ch)

Round 2 ch2, turn, dc in 1st ch sp

• ch 1
• dc2tog in same ch sp
• ch 1
• *[dc2tog, ch 1] 2 times in next ch sp

• Repeat from * around
• Join with a sl st to  first dc 

(16 dc2tog, 16ch)

Round 3 ch2, turn, dc in 1st ch sp

• ch 1
• dc2tog in same ch sp

Round 39-40 ch 1, do not turn.  sc in same st and each st around.  Join to first sc with a sl st.

Fasten off.  Weave in ends.
